Grease
Summer 2013
Merryman Performing Arts Center
One of the most popular musicals of all time, Grease had its Broadway premiere in 1972 and has triumphed throughout the world. In 1979 Grease took over the record as the longest-running show in the history of Broadway and the hit film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John proved to be the highest-grossing movie musical ever.
Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, have created a classic rock musical that follows the rebellious, thrill-loving T-Birds and Pink Ladies of Rydell High. When Danny Zuko, a popular tough guy, and Sandy Dumbrowski, the sweet girl next door, go back to school after a summer fling, Sandy finds that Danny is a different boy than the one she knew over the summer. Fun, friendship and humor abound in this nostalgic trip to the 1950’s, complete with greasers, slumber parties, sock hops and drive-in movies. Summer Nights, Greased Lighting, You’re The One That I Want, Hopelessly Devoted, and many other numbers come alive in this rollicking musical. So throw your mittens around your kittens and away we go!
The Merryman Performing Arts Center is a state of the art theater that houses many professional touring productions throughout the year. More than five million dollars was raised to create this outstanding venue which opened its doors in October of 2006. It seats approximately 700 when combining the orchestra and balcony. Crane River Theater is proud to join forces with the Merryman for the production this summer and for many years to come.
