
At home in the Appalachian mountains, Ian first discovered his passion for carpentry by building tree houses as a kid. A native of east Tennessee, Ian found his love of theater at Oak Ridge High School. Although he started on props crew, he soon parlayed his building skills into scenic construction. Throughout high school, his love for theater only grew as he joined choir and acted in school musicals. As per the recommendation of his beloved Technical Design,Tyler Davis, Ian chose to attend Maryville College (MC) where he is now a rising senior majoring in Theater studies with a technical focus. As a liberal arts school, MC has given him a deeper sense of what it truly means to be creative in the theater industry. He has had the privilege to work various aspects of tech such as audio board operator, lighting technician, chief flyman, head of carpentry, and more. He has also expanded his skill set by working with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. Last summer he was a stage operations intern at Des Moines Metro Opera, and, after spending a summer without working in the wonderful world of lighting, he realized that is where his passion lies. Recently, Ian has stepped into the world of design by lighting The Odd Couple; female version and creating the scenic design for Angels in America; Millennium Approaches. On his days off, you can find Ian at the local line dance bar cutting a rug with his friends on the dance floor or at home playing a relaxing game of Magic the Gathering.
